Dear Southwest Virginia Firefighter’s Association Members,

I would like to personally thank each of you for your support. I am excited about the opportunity to serve you this year.  I especially would like to extend a warm welcome to all of our new members and new convention attendees. We appreciate you.  Ultimately, I hope that our association will grow to encompass members from all 23 counties and 4 independent cities in Southwest Virginia.

Throughout the next year, it is my goal to better the association by providing more opportunities for training and by being more proactive in legislation.  Training is very important and equips us to perform at our best.  It does not matter where in Southwest Virginia you may be from, all of us can use a refresher training class.  I believe that it is vital for us to know and practice the most up-to-date procedures and tactics.

Along with this, I believe that we need to be more proactive with legislation.  With many budget cuts across Virginia, we need to make sure there is still funding for training. Instead of being reactive to changes, we need to strive to be proactive and make a stand to protect our association and funding.  David Bailey is our lobbyist and works with the association to represent the Southwest Virginia Firefighters Association and the Virginia State Firefighter’s Association.  Please feel free to contact me if you have an idea that you think would be beneficial to lobby or perhaps a concern with proposed or existing legislation.

Radford Fire and Rescue along with the Southwest Virginia Firefighter’s Association would like to personally invite each of you to our 64th Annual Southwest Virginia Firefighter’s Convention.  The convention will be held on June 10th – 13th, 2010, in Roanoke, Virginia. This year’s convention will feature training. Additional information will be provided at a later date.

If I can be of any assistance to you or your department please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Redd
