Members of the Southwest Virginia Firefighter’s Association,
It is my honor and privilege to serve as your President this year. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome our new members. I would also like to thank Chief Billy Hanks and the members of the Christiansburg Fire Dept for their support and confidence. This association is one of the most respected and influential fire service groups in the state of Virginia. It is our duty to uphold that tradition.
My goal for the upcoming year is to increase involvement throughout the association. We need everyone from all areas to continue our efforts. I ask that you volunteer for committees and projects. I ask that you get involved and ask questions. We are all hear to improve the fire service and by working together we can make it happen. It is also my goal to increase training throughout the association by working with the Dept of Fire Programs to bring classes to all areas of the Southwest. This line of work we have been called to is forever changing. We must continue to train in order to stay ahead. As the old saying goes, we are only as strong as our weakest link. We are only as strong as our training.
Finally, I would like to issue a challenge to all of our members. Strive to make every day better than the day before. Encourage one another, work with one another. To the younger members, never stop learning. You are our future. To the seasoned members, never stop teaching. We need and value your experience. To everyone, never stop training!
The Christiansburg Fire Dept along with myself would like to invite each of you to the 72nd Southwest Virginia Firefighters Association Convention on June 14-16, 2018 at the Sheraton Roanoke Hotel & Conference Center in Roanoke, Virginia. We are planning an outstanding convention to include training, vendors, competition, and as always lots of fellowship. If I can be of assistance to any of you, please do not hesitate to contact me. If you have any ideas or suggestions to make us better, please share them with me. I look forward to working with all of you this upcoming year.
